Recommended Exhibitions Opening This Week :
Othello De'Souza-Hartley - ‘9005’ Solo Exhibition - The Bomb Factory Art Foundation, Holborne (24th October - 9th November, opening Wednesday 23rd October, 6-9pm)
The Bomb Factory Art Foundation presents Othello De'Souza-Hartley’s solo exhibition, in collaboration with architect Laura Büchi and sound artist Elliot Buchanan.
“The exhibition takes its name from the industrial code for Jet Black, the sole colour De’Souza-Hartley employs in his work. Through this monochromatic palette, he explores the narrative potential of human skin and built environments, skillfully integrating painting, photography, sound, and architectural design. At the heart of 9005 are De’Souza-Hartley’s large-scale paintings, which feature intuitive mark-making and rich textures. These works create a compelling dialogue between the traces of time on skin and architectural surfaces, encouraging viewers to reflect on the beauty inherent in both personal and structural histories.” - The Bomb Factory Art Foundation
Ralph Anderson - ‘Dig’ Solo Exhibition - JGM Gallery, Battersea (23rd November - 30th November, opening Wednesday 23rd October, 6:30-8:30pm)
JGM Gallery presents Ralph Anderson’s solo exhibition ‘Dig’.
“Anderson's use of a rotary tool to sand down layers of paint strikes a line of continuity between his early and current practice. The exhibition's title takes inspiration from this technique. The resulting scratches, inscriptions and hollows, which figuratively 'dig' through the surface of these paintings, are the artist's primary motifs in this exhibition.” - JGM Gallery
Johannes Bosisio & Sian Fan - ‘Another Self’ Two-Person Exhibition - Night Café, Fitzrovia (24th October - 22nd November, opening Thursday 7th November, 6-8pm)
Night Café presents Johannes Bosisio and Sian Fan’s two-person exhibition ‘Another Self’.
“The exhibition navigates the intersection where identity is continuously molded by external forces, and where the transient nature of perception itself becomes a transformative force on the self.” - Night Café
Daniel Shanken - ‘The Pits’ Solo Exhibition - Chemist, Deptford (25th October - 1st December, opening Thursday 24th October, 6:30-9:30pm)
Chemist presents Daniel Shanken’s solo exhibition ‘The Pits’.
“The Pits is a new installation by artist Daniel Shanken that descends through tiers and levels: the pit in your stomach, in the ground, and in your brain. It uses eating as a crux, imagining the digestion, assimilation, offloading, and onboarding that occur when giving yourself to be devoured by technologies or entities with their own agency and agendas. The work shifts between different perspectives—human, non-human, pizza box, and microwave—exploring the pleasure and horror of willingly opting in and zoning out.” - Chemist
Lily Bunney - ‘girls peeing on cars’ Solo Exhibition - Guts Gallery, Hackney (25th October - 19th November, opening Friday 25th October, 6-8pm)
Guts Gallery & miłość present Lily Bunney’s debut solo exhibition ‘girls peeing on cars’. It is the first of two presentations of Lily Bunney’s work as a collaboration between the galleries, with the second part to open at miłość in November.
“girls peeing on cars is an expression of reverence for friendship, with the exhibition being an homage not just to the concepts of closeness, communion, mutual support and celebration, but also to Lily’s actual friends. Lily speaks of narrating her life through friendship, with her adulthood being an exploration of comfort evolving from close personal relationships.” - Guts Gallery
‘Purity&Danger’ Group Exhibition - Guts Projects, Hackney (25th October - 19th November, opening Friday 25th October, 6-8pm)
Guts Projects presents ‘Purity&Danger’, a group exhibition curated by Mathilde Friis featuring Aj Bravo, Anna Sampson, DaddyBears (above), Darya Diamond and Maite de Orbe.
“The title draws inspiration from anthropologist Mary Douglas' 1966 theory, which examines how societies construct ideas of purity and impurity by distinguishing between the clean and the dirty, the sacred and the profane, the pure and the dangerous. The selection of works explore the intimate relationship between art and sex, reimagining purity and danger by embracing fluidity, sensuality and excess as powerful expressions of the human experience.” - Guts Projects
Nicolaas van de Lande & Lucía Scarselletta - ‘The Forever Temporary’ Two-Person Exhibition - Turf Projects, Croydon (30th October - 22nd March, opening Saturday 26th October, 3-5pm)
Turf Projects presents ‘The Forever Temporary’, a two-person exhibition by Nicolaas van de Lande and Lucía Scarselletta.
“How do we name a place home when it feels forever temporary? Through soft sculptural works, woven texts and film, Nicolaas van de Lande & Lucía Scarselletta explore the tender threads of existing in precarious housing environments. Acknowledging the rise in temporary housing situations in Croydon and beyond, Nicolaas and Lucía address their shared experiences as property guardians through expanded sculptural works.” - Turf Projects
